Meet Peacein

Hello! My name is Peacein (she/her) but you can call me Peace. I'm a young, queer (unemployed lol) artist born and raised in the Pacific NorthWest. My communities were filled with murals and sculptures from local artists. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, I got scolded for doodling on my homework or hiding my sketchbook under my desk during lectures. I have a Bachelor's degree in graphic design but I've always loved drawing and making traditional art.

My Art Style

I gravitate towards abstract, pattern and illustration work. I have a signature chrome effect, which is achieved by mixing high gloss varnish and iridescent mica powders to add a holographic effect to my paintings, which changes the look in different lighting. I feel every artist has a realism phase but I think making abstractions shows how you perceive the world along with demonstrating one's understanding of design. Also hearing my interpretations alongside others is interesting to me, almost like Rorschach tests. Being able to make something out of nothing is beautiful to me, and that's what art is meant to be.

Love for the Craft

As with most artists, I've played with many mediums; inks, clay, graphite but I've come to enjoy painting in the past few years. Being able to achieve subtle textures by using different brushes and even the angles in which you hold that brush is fascinating to me. I think this passion derived from my love of calligraphy. Once I get in the mood to paint, I can work for hours on end till my fingers go numb and are covered in blisters. I know I need to take more breaks but once I get in the groove it's hard to stop. The amount of focus and precision is takes is invigorating and the accomplishment you feel after making something that is your own is beyond satisfying. Even if I sell no paintings, I will still create because that is what I was born to do. To me, when you buy someone's art, you are buying their time, a piece of the life and efforts, their passion. So I will always admire traditional art.

My Creative Process

When thinking of design ideas, I usually start with a single stroke or form and build off of it. I typically work small, on a blank sketch card or a small piece of paper before rendering larger because working straight on canvas can be overwhelming and daunting. I then render the design on canvas with traditional acrylics, playing with colors and practicing techniques. For sale, I am currently offering certified replicas of my original designs, so they are still hand painted. To make the replicas, I digitize my design and make a custom stencil that can be scaled to any size. Even if I use a stencil I still do all line work by hand with brushes to get the cleanest image possible. I also use interior house paints to get vivid and opaque colors, to skip the color mixing process and allow for consistent and near identical replica paintings.

My Goals and Plans

I hope with this website, I'm able to hone my graphic and web design skills along with learning how to market and brand myself in this everchanging digital market. I've always liked the idea of being able to sell and produce a physical product and I think selling replicas is the way to go. My production process expediates handicraft times so I'm able to make my work accesible enough to where any collector can get a physical hand painted piece of my work and not having to settle for a digital print.

There will be limited stock available for replicas but monthly restocks will be done, each replica takes nearly the same amount of time as painting an original so I appreciate your patience. I plan on doing drops of new designs every other month, ranging from abstract and illustration. I hope in the future to branch off of paintings and make in-house printed tote bags or shirts, or maybe even a coloring book at some point!

I produce and manage everything by myself for this endeavor, which includes production, painting, planning, shipping, social media, etc. It takes a lot of time and effort but I'm proud of what I've done and seek to accomplish. I've recently been diagnosed as disabled so there is a limit to how much I can handle on a day to day but I will do what I can to ensure you all get the best products possible. I'd like to sincerely thank all who have given me support both in person, online, and all my viewers. Your kindness and support means so much to me. Without it, I wouldn't have built the courage to take this big step <3
